When training for a triathlon some days you’re just tired, and that’s how I’m feeling today. In fact endurance athlete embrace these moments as a great training opportunity, but today I don’t feel like it. Yes, I’ll embrace the tiredness, and I’ll enjoy being bad.
Today I woke at 6:45 instead of 5:00. Now it’s 9:15, and I’m eating a chocolate chip cookies — loving it. For lunch I’ll eat fried chicken — will love that too. No doubt I’ll pay for it tomorrow, but today I’ll accept being off.
Like any off moment, the trick to moving past it, to thriving and success is moderation. So, this moment is a perfect opportunity to test being true to oneself while being respectful to others.
For me that means respecting being tired and wishing I was on vacation. It means acknowledging I can be snappy to others when I’m tired, and that snappy is not a good attitude when driving, which is something I need to do today. Hence I need to chill out, relax, have patience – especially with other people, i.e., be fine if someone cuts me off or drives slower than me. As long as we don’t crash and I get to where I need to go – all will be fine.
Today’s take away – be aware off your attitude (especially if you’re tired). Then embrace it, be true to yourself, and be respectful to others. Don’t let a snappy day make your life hell.
