Ironman’s Life Lesson for Project Mgt.

With a few friends registered for Ironman 2015 Arizona, Cozumel, and Oceanside, racing and training is on my mind.  Which race to do?  Not sure.  For now I’ll focus on staying healthy; a tough task during the Christmas season. So many yummy things to eat (indulge in moderation).   The New Year will present the right race.

At times training is overwhelming.  It’s a six month commitment to build the mental and physical strength to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles.

Thankfully Ironman taught me a few life lessons, and here are three that help finish any seemingly impossible task – cleaning a desk, preparing for taxes, developing new business, loosing weight, etc..

    1. Embrace discipline.  Create a plan and stick to it.
    2. Keep it simple. One stroke, one pedal, one step at a time.  Focus on today’s goal not the race (run 3 miles, not 26.2 miles)
    3. Relax.  Know the difference between physical and mental fatigue.  To learn more about sports and mental endurance, read this article by Mitchell Smith.

    Always Tri.  Never stop.
